Thomas Couture - Paintings

Thomas Couture, a teacher of Edouard Manet, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and Anselm Feuerbach, was a French painter of history paintings and portraits in the 19th century.
Born on December 21, 1815 in Senlis.
Died on March 29, 1879 in Paris.
Thomas Couture, who studied fine arts with Gros and Paul Delaroche as his teachers, mostly painted history paintings and portraits that are characterized by detailed ornamentation of the figures. During a stay in Italy, he became acquainted with the art of the Venetians and the works of antiquity and the Renaissance. He exhibited in salons and established a name for himself with his work "Romans in the Decadence of the Empire".
