Lucas Cranach, whose studio had an equally good reputation as Albrecht Dürer's, was a famous German painter of the Renaissance.

Influenced by Albrecht Durer, Lucas Cranach combined in his work landscape depictions with scenic events towards a romantic-looking unity. In doing so, he became the ancestor of the Danube school. His extensive oeuvre consists of portraits, altarpieces, devotional paintings and woodcuts with both, religious and mythological content. From 1507, the very enterprising Lucas Cranach, who was very committed to the City of Wittenberg, worked at the Saxon court in Wittenberg. A friend of Martin Luther, he created among other things woodcuts for Luther's Bible translation. |
