Lord Frederic Leighton - Paintings

Frederic Leighton, 1st Baron Leighton, known as Sir Frederic Leighton, was the most important English writer, painter and illustrator of the Victorian Neoclassicism. He received his hereditary peerage for his artistic achievement, one day before he died.
Born: 03 December 1830, in Scarborough
Died: 25 January 1896 in London
Frederic Leighton receives his artistic training both at the Florentine Academy as well as in Frankfurt am Main, Brussels and Paris. Under the Frankfurt am Main-based painter Eduard von Steinle alone, he works for three years until he debuts in 1855. Already his early work, with influences from the Nazarenes shows his desire to get to know different artist groups and styles. Thus, he is very close to the Pre-Raphaelites for a short time, which can be seen in some of his paintings, such as “Flaming June”. Today, Frederic Leighton is counted as a representative of the Academic Neoclassicism. This is understandable considering his paintings, which are strongly influenced by ancient, religious and mythological motifs, as well as by his clear, correct and line accentuated painting style.
