Henri Joseph Harpignies - Paintings

Henri-Joseph Harpignies was a distinguished French painter and draftsman of the school of Barbizon. In addition to being a painter, he was also a gifted violincello player.
Born: 24 July 1819 in Valenciennes
Died: 28 August 1916 in Saint-Privé (Yonne)
At his father's request, Henri Joseph Harpignies first works in his refinery factory. Only at the age of 27, he starts taking professional painting lessons with Jean-Alexis Achard. After several trips to the surrounding countries, to which he owes the acquaintance of numerous artists, he specializes in realistic landscape depictions, some of which are exhibited at the Paris Salon. Even though his personal style changes over the years, the tendency to the painting by Camille Corot is constantly visible.
