Egon Schiele - Paintings

Egon Schiele was one of the most famous painters of Expressionism and a co-founder of the Neukunstgruppe (Group of New Art).
Born: 12 June 1890 in Tulln on the Danube
Died: 13 October 1918 in Vienna
The Austrian painter and graphic artist Egon Schiele completes his art studies in the years 1906 to 1909 at the Vienna Academy. Molded by the art nouveau artist Gustav Klimt, by East Asian art, but also by the symbolist Hodler, Schiele's very own style develops from 1910 onwards towards Expressionism. In the following years, he paints landscapes and portraits, including immoral portraits of girls, which earns him an imprisonment for a short time in 1912. In addition to quotations on paintings by Gustav Klimt, Schiele also paints expressionist paintings on sculptures by Rodin. After his participation in the First World War, Egon Schiele's works testify even more of a strong distortion and tornness. The distorted bodies with their overstressed hands are expressions of the artist's personal experiences. From 1916, his style develops more towards realism and detail.
