Eduard Hildebrandt - Paintings

Eduard Hildebrandt was an important German painter of the 19th century who is internationally known for his illuminated landscapes.
Born: 09 September 1817 in Danzig
Died: 25 October 1868 in Berlin
Eduard Hildebrandt begins to travel through Europe very soon after his apprenticeship, which takes place both with his father and with various Berlin painters. He gets support from the painter Wilhelm Krause, Alexander von Humboldt and King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In his early work, Hildebrandt feels connected with coastal landscapes and naval depictions. He uses the technique of watercolor, which he remains faithful to throughout his life, as a medium to emphasize his light and easy painting style. Through his numerous journeys, the artist obtains many new motifs, which he immortalizes in genre depictions. These are very popular with the Prussian king and Eduard Hildebrandt becomes his court painter. But also in the neighboring European countries, his talent is discovered and appreciated and rewarded with gold medals.
