Edgar Degas (born Hilaire-Germain-Edgar De Gas) was an important French painter of Impressionism.
Born on July 19, 1834 in Paris.
Died on September 27, 1917 in Paris.
Edgar Degas' early work consists of classically influenced history paintings with mythological content. It was not until 1865, when he started painting more scenes of everyday life that convince by the psychological penetration in the expression of their figures. Furthermore, in 1867, he created the first of his famous dancers' pictures. Through contact with Claude Monet, he participated in several Impressionist exhibitions. Sticking to his own style, he continued to paint scenes of everyday life, depicting lonely, introverted persons.
