Anna Kristine Ancher was a Danish painter of Impressionism. She abandoned her maiden name Brøndum after getting married to painter Michael Ancher.

Anna is educated in painting classes by the painter Vilhelm Kyhn in Copenhagen. After her return to Skagen, she joins a local society of artists. The Skagen Painters, which also Anna’s future husband Michael Ancher belonged to, practiced plein air painting, as it was typical for Impressionism. In 1880, she marries Michael.
Although Anna Ancher produces many portraits and genre paintings in pastel, she prefers painting depictions of interiors. It is likely that pictures of Vermeer have inspired her in this respect, as she might have seen them during a trip. Her paintings, which are always characterized by a calm and reflective charisma, are mostly light-flooded and already have partially the fleeting brushwork of Impressionism. Through her very impressive, individual portraits, she is now rated among the most important Danish painters.
