Angelo Bronzino - Paintings


Angelo Bronzino (nickname of Agnolo di Cosimo di Mariano) was one of the best-known Florentine Mannerist painter.
Born: in 1502 in Florence
Died: in 1563 in Florence
From 1522, after completing his apprenticeship with the Mannerist painter Jacopo Pontormo, Agnolo Bronzino starts working closely together with him. In addition to many religious works, many allegorical paintings are produced for the palaces of the Medici. Like his master, also Bronzino is appointed to the court of the Medici where he is appreciated as a highly-esteemed interlocutor due to his comprehensive humanistic education, which comes together with his artistic qualities. He produces many portraits for his aristocratic customers delineating the individualities and social roles of the portrayed persons by their high degree of detail. By this representative severity in his portraits, he attains the highest prestige.
