Albrecht Altdorfer - Paintings

Albrecht Altdorfer, German painter, copperplate engraver and architect, is considered the most important member of the so-called Danube-school popular in Bavaria and Austria, which had set itself the objective to help the landscape to get a stand-alone expression by applying a contrasty set of colors.
Born around 1480 in Regensburg.
Died on February 12, 1538 in Regensburg.
Albrecht Altdorfer's early work is characterized by a rich in detail, almost miniature manner of painting. Influenced by Albrecht Dürer's and Michael Pacher's works, he deals mainly with subjects from the Christian iconography. In Altdorfer's later work, more and more the importance of the depiction of landscapes prevails over the depiction of figures. Therefore, he can be considered the first painter of stand-alone landscape paintings of Europe, helping many painters of the early 16th century to new inspiration.
