Winslow Homer - Peintures
Winslow Homer est un illustrateur et peintre paysagiste américain connu du 19ème siècle.
Né le 24/02/1836 à Boston.
Mort le 29/09/1910 à Prout’s Neck Scarsboro dans le Maine.
Winslow Homer, lithographe de formation, qui travaille à ses débuts comme illustrateur pour des magazines américains, réussit à être accepté aux Beaux-Arts en 1866, grâce aux dessins du reportage « Prisonniers du Front », qui illustre les cruautés de la guerre de sécession. Winslow Homer, qui fait la connaissance des peintres de l’Ecole de Barbizon lors d’un voyage en France, reste fidèle à son thème de prédilection, le paysage, et en profite pour mettre en scène des personnages en soulignant leur psychologie. Ses œuvres tardives, dont les plus connues sont les peintures de la Marine qui laissent transparaitre la solitude des hommes, s’inspirent des paysages de la cote du Maine, où l’artiste part s’établir en 1882.
