Jan Havicksz Steen - Peintures
Jan Havicksz Steen (Leiden, vers 1626 – inhumé le 3 février 1679) – peintre hollandais important de l´époque baroque, auteur de tableaux historiques et de scènes de genre.
Jan Steen suit l´enseignement d´Adriaen van Ostade à Haarlem puis, à la Hague, celui de Johann Van Goyen dont il épouse la fille en 1649. Curieux de tout et très doué, il compose aussi bien des tableaux historiques ou mythologiques que des paysages, des portraits ou des natures mortes. Il est cependant connu avant tout pour ses scènes de genre. Il est non seulement peintre mais aussi tavernier, ce qui lui fournit de nombreux motifs pour ses œuvres. Ses tableaux riches en détails révèlent un regard acéré mais aussi plein d´humour porté sur les faiblesses et les défauts humains, qu´il montre volontiers d´une façon directe et assez crue. Un grand nombre de ses tableaux riches en personnages et d´une composition souvent dramatique sont des illustrations de proverbes et d´allégories ou bien mettent en scène des personnages d´œuvres littéraires contemporaines ou des coutumes populaires.
