Isaak Iljitsch Lewitan - Peintures
Isaak Iljitsch Lewitan (Wirballen, 30 août 1860 – Moscou, 4 août 1900, selon le calendrier grégorien) – peintre russe important de l´époque réaliste.
Isaak Lewitan grandit dans une famille juive pauvre mais cultivée du district de Kowno (aujourd´hui en Lituanie). Sa famille s´installe à Moscou alors qu´il est âgé d´environ 10 ans. En 1873 il commence à suivre les cours de l´école supérieure de peinture de Moscou où on le considère très vite comme un élève surdoué, si bien qu´il est dispensé des frais de scolarité en raison de son extrême pauvreté après la mort prématurée de ses parents en 1875 et 1877. Il travaille à partir de 1876 dans l´atelier du peintre Alexeï Savrassov, lequel prône la peinture de plein air. Isaak montre très vite des dispositions extraordinaires pour la peinture de paysages. Ses premières œuvres sont exposées en 1877 et sont saluées par des critiques très favorables. D´autres expositions suivent, également à l´étranger, notamment à Munich. Il découvre les œuvres de l´école de Barbizon et apprécie tout particulièrement Corot. En 1898 il commence à enseigner la peinture de paysages à l´Ecole supérieure de Moscou. Il cultive sa vie durant une amitié étroite avec Tchékov. Il meurt à seulement 40 ans d´une maladie de cœur. Ses représentations de la nature russe sont l´expression des pensées et sentiments qui l´habitent et sont souvent marquées par une profonde mélancolie. Il montre avec une stupéfiante vérité la lumière propre à chacune des saisons et l´on perçoit véritablement l´humidité de l´air en regardant ses tableaux de l´automne (« Jour d´automne. Sokolniki ») ou la légèreté de la brise printanière comme dans « Inondation au printemps ». Il a un talent tout particulier pour comprendre ce qui fait l´atmosphère d´un paysage et pour rendre celle-ci ensuite sur la toile.
