Frédéric Arthur Bridgman - Peintures
Frédéric Arthur Bridgman (10 novembre 1847, Tuskegee, Alabama – 13 janvier 1928, Rouen), peintre et musicien américain de la mouvance orientaliste. Après avoir étudié le design à l´Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Brooklyn tout en travaillant parallèlement comme poinçonneur de billets de banque, Frédéric Arthur Bridgman s´installe en 1866 à Paris et devient l´élève de Jean-Léon Gérôme. Ses premières œuvres, dans lesquelles il s´attache à traiter des motifs inspirés par la Bretagne, lui permettront de se faire un nom. Mais il devient véritablement célèbre lorsqu´il se tourne vers des sujets orientalistes, à partir de 1872, après plusieurs voyages en Egypte et en Nubie. Ses expositions de tableaux montrant des épisodes de l´histoire égyptienne lui valent 3 médailles, ses couleurs vives sont particulièrement appréciées. Lors de l´Exposition Universelle de 1900 il est nommé président de la section d´art africain. Frédéric Arthur Bridgman
