Edouard Vuillard - Peintures
Edouard Vuillard (Cuiseaux, 11 novembre 1868 – La Baule-Escoublac, 21 juin 1940) – peintre français parmi les plus importants du post-impressionnisme à la fin du XIXème siècle, il est aussi dessinateur, graveur et illustrateur.
Il grandit à Paris dans un milieu modeste, il perd son père à l´âge de 15 ans. Sa famille veut pour lui une carrière militaire, mais il quitte le lycée en 1885 pour étudier la peinture, et deux ans plus tard, il suit les cours de Jean-Léon Gérôme à l´Académie des Beaux-Arts. Il devient membre du groupe « Les Nabis » (prophètes) en 1889. Ses oeuvres révèlent alors une association très personnelle entre le style synthétique de ses amis peintres et son admiration pour des maîtres anciens tels que Le Sueur et Chardin dont il apprécie particulièrement les natures mortes. Il devient célèbre par ses scènes d´intérieur montrant sa mère et ses sœurs occupées à des travaux de couture. Sa manière quasi pointilliste fait de ses tableaux une sorte de tapisserie avec des angles de vues inhabituels et une gamme de couleurs chromatique. Il est aussi très demandé pour exécuter des décors de théâtre, des affiches et de nombreuses illustrations pour la « Revue blanche ». Il reçoit de nombreuses commandes de la part de la bourgeoisie parisienne pour des décors muraux et aussi des portraits. Il dit toutefois de lui qu´il ne peint pas des portraits mais « des gens chez eux ». Sa principale source d´inspiration semble être l´intimité de la vie quotidienne, mais aussi l´évolution permanente dans la vie comme dans l´art en général.
