Carl Heinrich Bloch was a famous Danish history painter and etcher of the late Romantic period.
Born on May 23, 1834 in Copenhagen.
Died on February 22, 1890 in Copenhagen.
Carl Heinrich Bloch was taught at the Copenhagen Academy where he was also appointed professor later. Due to many trips, the artist was able to integrate various styles into his works. So one finds the light-dark contrast of the Netherlands of the foregoing century as well as the suggestions obtained from the then contemporary French art. Carl Heinrich Bloch painted mainly religious pictures, but he also made colorful anecdotal genre scenes as well as technically outstanding portraits for which he earned many awards. Besides the huge number of graphics, Bloch became in particular famous for his large-scale works for the church of Frederiksborg Castle marking the climax of his career.		 Carl Heinrich Bloch
