Pompeo Girolamo Batoni, italienischer Maler des späten Barock und Wegbereiter des Neo-Klassizismus in Italien, gilt als bedeutendster Portraitist seiner Zeit.
geboren am 25. Januar 1708 in Lucca
gestorben am 04. Februar 1787 in Rom
Pompeo Girolamo Batoni geht nach seiner Ausbildung zum Goldschmied in der väterlichen Werkstatt nach Rom, um sich an den Werken Raffael´s und den antiken Skulpturen zu bilden. In seinen recht pathetisch und theatralisch anmutenden Gemälden behandelt er größtenteils religiöse und mythologische Themen. Um das Jahr 1748 entwickelt er einen neuen Portraitstil und erlangt damit eine Vorrangstellung unter den römischen Malern. 		Pompeo Girolamo Batoni
