Paolo Veronese, der eigentlich Paolo Caliari heißt, ist einer der bedeutendsten Maler der venezianischen Kunst zur Zeit der Renaissance.
geboren im Jahr 1528 in Verona
gestorben am 14. September 1588 in Venedig
Ausgebildet bei dem Maler Gabriele di Piero beginnt Paolo Veronese in seinem Frühwerk die manieristische Malerei von Parmigianinos – des berühmten Malers der sogenannten „Madonna mit dem langen Hals“ zu studieren. Später gelingt es ihm sich mit repräsentativen religiösen und humanistischen Gemälden in Venedig einen Namen zu machen. Seine Werke, deren kompositionell auflockernder Effekt durch gemalte Architektur erzielt wird, überzeugen durch Veroneses Fähigkeit den Manierismus mit dem Stil der Hochrenaissance zu verquicken.
