Paul Gustave Fischer, who originated from a family of artists, received a drawing education at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. Having started with urban-scene drawings, he soon changed to painting. He started painting houses and portraits before changing to more brightly colored depictions of bathing people and nudes, motivated by the Scandinavian Carl Larsson. From 1850, inspired by the style of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Fischer designed large posters, for which he soon earned as much recognition as for his illustrations. Like many other artists, also Paul Gustave Fischer used the new medium of photography in order to get originals that are more accurate for his cityscape paintings. In addition to those, he created more independent portraits and nudes. |
