William Holman Hunt - Peintures
William Holman Hunt, qui fait partie des préraphaélites tout comme Millais et Rossetti, est un peintre et dessinateur anglais du 19ème siècle.
Né le 02/04/1827 à Londres.
Mort le 07/09/1910 à Londres.
C’est après avoir travaillé durant dix années en tant que copieur au British Museum qu’il finit par être engagé par la Royal Academy, où il fonde la confédération des Préraphaélites. Ce mouvement artistique se base de par ses sujets religieux à haute symbolique sur les œuvres de Raphaël, et s’oppose au commerce académique victorien. William Holman Hunt, qui connait son premier grand succès en 1854 grâce au tableau „La lumière du monde“, parvient à donner une grande authenticité à ses œuvres profondément religieuses et remplies de symboles, grâce à plusieurs voyages qu’il effectue à travers les Pays-Bas et la France, ainsi qu’en Palestine.
