John La Farge - Paintings
John La Farge was a significant American painter, illustrator, writer and glass painter of Naturalism born to French parents. He is internationally known for his glass windows.
Born: 31 March 1835 in New York
Died: 14 November 1910 in Providence, Rhode Island
John La Farge discovers his love for art during a stay in Paris. In addition to studying with Thomas Couture in Paris, he also meets with members of the Pre-Raphaelites brotherhood. There, he gets acquainted with William Morris Hunt, with whom he collaborates in Newport. His early work is characterized by landscapes. He also works as an illustrator. He is known for his religious wall paintings, among others, at the Church of Ascension in New York. Later, he will also design its windows. It is not until the 1870s that John La Farge gets interested in glass painting, developing a unique colorful technique, earning him international orders. Through several travels to the South Seas and to Japan, he can enrich his late work by exotic theme complexes. 		John La Farge
