Jan van Eyck, an Early Netherlandish book and panel painter, was the greatest artists of Early Netherlandish painting scene due to the unprecedented realism of his works.
Born around 1390 in Maaseyck near Maastricht.
Died on July 09, 1441 in Bruges.
In 1431, Jan van Eyck, who was in service for several princes, settled as court and city painter in Bruges. His main work, "The Ghent Altarpiece" was named the most important work of art of his time, based on the great realism, the detailed precision and the individuality of the depicted people. Also as a portrait painter, Jan van Eyck enjoyed an artistic special status. For the first time, his figures appear half-figured or in a three-quarter view. By his innovation in the oil painting, he also creates a special luminosity and depth of color so that no varnish is needed anymore.		 Jan van Eyck
