Dieric Bouts was an important Dutch Early Netherlandish painter of the 15th century.
Born: about 1415 in Haarlem
Died: 06 May 1475 in Leuven
In his paintings and altarpieces, Dieric Bouts treats themes of the Christian iconography. His painting is inspired in style by the works of Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden and Petrus Christus, whose pupil Dieric Bouts could have been. But it differs from them by means of the quiet and reserved habit of his characters. In his few landscape depictions, his talent to capture the moods of the times of day becomes obvious. |
