Arthur John Elsley - Paintings

Arthur John Elsley was an English painter of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods whose painting were often duplicated by means of engraving and used for advertising purposes.
Born: 20 November 1861 in London
Died: 19 February 1952 in London
Arthur John Elsley’s drawing talent is discovered already at young age and professionalized at various art schools, including the Royal Academy Schools. His early work already shows his preference for genre pictures, the motifs of which are children with their pets. Elsley is acquainted with many English artists, including Frederick Morgan, with whom he shares a studio for a long time. Both artists influence each other. Therefore, both are equally known for their sweet depictions of children in mostly domestic environments and in the presence of small animals such as cats and dogs.
