Walter Gramatte - Paintings

Walter Gramatté was a German painter of Expressionism. He was closely associated with artists of “Die Brücke”.
Born: 08 January 1897 in Berlin
Died: 09 February 1929 in Hamburg
Walter Gramatté completed his artistic training at the Royal School of Art in Berlin, interrupted by several conscriptions during the First World War. Due to a life-long bone disease and terrible war experiences, Gramatté’s paintings revolve around human destiny. Very often, he also immortalizes his wife, Sophie-Carmen Friedman, who, after his early death, assisted by her second husband, Ferdinand Eckhardt, warrants the saving of his work from the Nazis.
