Thomas Cooper Gotch - Paintings

Thomas Cooper Gotch was an important English painter and draftsman of Symbolism. His brother John Alfred Gotch was an architect.
Born: 10 December 1854 in Kettering
Died: 01 May 1931 in London
Thomas Cooper Gotch’s artistic inspiration is influenced by various sources and by several journeys. Following a series of stylistic experiments, he achieves artistic prestige with a new style of painting, which is very similar to the Pre-Raphaelite style. From 1890, he devotes himself to symbolic depictions of archaizingly dressed young women, who are in a state of existential transition. Apart from moralizing depictions, also isolated landscape paintings are produced. But this, above all, in his late work.
