Thomas Girtin, whose unique aesthetic feeling had a great influence on British landscape painting, was an important painter and etcher of the 18th century.
Born on February 18, 1775 in London.
Died on November 02, 1802 in London.
From 1791 until 1795, after completing his education with the topographer Edward Dayes, Thomas Girtin worked as topographer himself. So his first painting works were also committed to this field. For that time being, he dealt with Scottish monastery ruins and ancient castles, which he might have seen on a 4-year trip through Scotland and Wales. His further development of the watercolor technique also affected William Turner who was his friend and admirer.		 Thomas Girtin
