Nicolas Lancret - Paintings

Nicolas Lancret, who was a master painter in the art of "Fêtes Gallant", was one of the most important French painters of Rococo.
Born on January 22, 1690 in Paris.
Died on September 14, 1743 in Paris.
After an education received from the history painter Pierre Dulin and Jean Antoine Watteau's teacher Claude Gillot, Nicolas Lancret, about whose life only little is known, was admitted to the Académie Royale de Peinture et Sculpture. His work was strongly influenced in form and content by his fellow painter Jean Antoine Watteau. Therefore, after Watteau's death, Nicolas Lancret became the most sought-after painter of a new genre, which picked out cheerful festivities and intimate situations in parks as its central theme. With the famous painting "The Swing", it becomes clear what a particular observation skill Nicolas Lancret had, providing this seemingly harmless, cheerful situation with a symbolic, erotic component, the swing as a symbol for the love game. In addition to this, he was also known for his theatrical depictions that he produced in a very fine coloring, as it would fit in the context of his style.
