Juan Gris - Paintings

Juan Gris was a famous Spanish painter and illustrator of Analytical and Synthetic Cubism, alongside Pablo Picasso and George Braque.
Born: 23 March 1887 in Madrid, Spain
Died: 11 May 1927 in Boulogne-sur-Seine, France
Juan Gris has himself educated in Madrid at the School of Arts and Sciences as well as by the painter José Moreno Carbonero. While his early work follows the Art-Nouveau style, and he works as an illustrator for Madrid magazines, Gris moves to Paris where he meets Pablo Picasso. In 1910, the artist starts to paint using almost monochrome colors in the style of Analytical Cubism. Three years later, he experiments with Synthetic Cubism and his paintings become almost colorful. The technique of collage opens new possibilities for the artists of Cubism, which they try to present to the critical public in the Paris Salon des Indépendent.
