Jean Etienne Liotard - Paintings

Jean-Étienne Liotard, who is considered the precursor of Auguste Dominique Ingres due to his portraits, was a French-speaking Swiss engraver and painter of the Rococo.
Born on December 22, 1702 in Geneva.
Died on June 12, 1789 in Geneva.
Jean-Étienne Liotard, whose first works closely were based on his idol Jean Antoine Watteau, received his education from Daniel Gardelle, a Geneva painter who had specialized in miniatures. In addition to that, from 1723, he studied with Jean-Baptiste Masse in Paris, and has himself trained as a portraitist. After a trip to Rome, which served him to study the old masters, especially the works of Correggio, Liotard spent some time in Constantinople. Among other things, in 1744, the artist, whose portraits were in demand in aristocratic circles, painted a portrait of the Empress Maria Theresa in Vienna. He became famous for his painting titled "The Chocolate Girl", which also was created in Vienna.
