Jan Gossaert - Paintings

Jan Gossaert (also called Mabuse), who played a key roll in the development of Dutch painting in the 17th century, is regarded as the first representative of the Dutch Romanists.
Born between 1478 and 1488 in Maubeuge.
Died in 1532 in Breda.
Despite a trip to Italy with his patron, Philip of Burgundy in 1503, Jan Gossaert stuck to the Netherlandish style of painting, influenced by Hugo van der Goes. Only in a later phase, style elements of Italian Renaissance can be discovered in his work, mainly consisting of portraits, small-format Madonna paintings and delicately painted nudes.
