George Inness - Paintings
George Inness was an American landscape painter. During several trips through Europe, he got familiar with the Barbizon School, which style he can be attributed to as well to that of the Hudson River School. In addition, he enriched the American landscape painting scene with his unique personal style.

The trained merchant George Inness learns about his talent during his apprenticeship as a map engraver. He autodidactically refines it during three trips through Europe. This is achieved by drawing in the open nature, but also by studying other artists. For example, at the age of 25, he lives in Paris for a year, and studies the works of the artists of the Barbizon School. These artistic activities begin earn him success during this time. However, it stabilizes only from the year 1875, when finding his own artistic style. George Inness who, in his painting style, is related to the newly emerging schools of landscape painting like the Hudson River School or the Rocky Mountain School, is appointed a member of the National Academy of Design at the age of 43. The strictly religious, metaphysically interested painter enriches the landscape painting scene by his claim in every painting to make his own sense of nature comprehensible in each of his works. He especially gets enthusiastic when depicting foggy landscapes. 		George Inness
