Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, whose realism led to many controversies, was a recognized Austrian painter of the Biedermeier era.
Born: 15 January 1793 in Vienna
Died: 23 August 1865 in Hinterbrühl near Vienna
After an art study, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, whose father is also artistically active, works as a colorist, teacher and theater artist. As a professor of the Viennese Academy, to which he is appointed in 1829, he writes a text for the optimization of teaching. The fact that, with his strict realism, he does not think and work in the traditional sense of the Academy, he also loses his recognition in his own country, until his late rehabilitation two years before his death. Instead, Waldmüller achieves international success through several journeys within Europe and a successful exhibition at the London City Palace. His oeuvre includes many detailed still-life paintings and portraits, as well as masterful landscapes, which are extremely close to the real nature with their light-flooded color.
