Domenico Ghirlandaio (born Domenico di Tommaso Curradi di Doffo Bigordi), in whose workshop Michelangelo was taught, was one of the most famous Florentine fresco painters of the early Renaissance besides Sandro Botticelli.
Born in 1449 in Florence.
Died on January 11, 1494 in Florence.
Domenico Ghirlandaio is known for both, for his fresco cycles painted with great plasticity as well as an excellent portraitist. In 1481, for example, he was involved in the painting of the Sistine Chapel. With great narrative joy, he liked to immortalize contemporary religious figures, rooms and places in his cycles, which makes him an outstanding chronicler for the contemporary research. In this effort to profane representations, already a hint of the later emerging genre painting can be seen.		 Domenico Ghirlandaio
