David Émile Joseph de Noter - Paintings

David Émile Joseph de Noter was a Belgian painter of Realism. His specialties were the depiction of interiors and still-lifes.
Born: in 1825 in Ghent
Died: in the year 1892
David Émile Joseph de Noter stems from a family of painters. His father, Jean-Baptiste André de Noter, is a Ghent-based painter for cityscapes and interiors. His uncle, Pieter-Frans de Noter the Younger, is the best-known painter of the family, and has a chair at the Academy of Ghent. He specializes in cityscapes, marine images and wintery landscapes. David Émile Joseph de Noter, however, settles in Brussels and paints laborious flower still lifes and arranges fruits, vegetables and all kinds of food in twisted interior rooms. Usually, he adds a woman to the still life who is concerned with the processing or positioning of the fruits and flowers, corresponding to her social status. These women are, however, not set to the foreground, when they are house maids and maids. The artist’s main emphasis is therefore the presentation of the commodity that is abundantly available in Belgium at that time, due to its imperialism. He is also awarded with medals.
