Charles Gleyre - Paintings

Charles Gleyre was a well-known Swiss painter of the 19th century with a penchant for history paintings with a romantic touch and mythological themes.
Born on May 02, 1806 in Chevilly, Switzerland.
Died on May 05, 1874 in Paris.
Charles Gleyre, who studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and under the history painter Louis Hersent, was influenced by the academic way of painting and Classicism due to his friendship with Léopold Robert, which is visible in the painting "The Roman Robbers". Nevertheless, his paintings reflect his very own romantic and visionary style.
