Antoine Jean Gros - Paintings

Antoine-Jean Gros, who became an idol of Romantics due to his strong, fresh coloring, was an important French portraitist and history painter of Classicism.
Born on March 16, 1771 in Paris.
Died on June 26, 1835 in Bas-Meudon.
Antoine-Jean Gros, who fled from troubles of the French Revolution to Italy, supported by his teacher, Jacques Louis David in 1793, got to know Napoleon in Genoa. He created impressively realistic war images, influenced by the Italian campaign of Napoleon, whom he accompanied. In 1799, Antoine-Jean Gros returned to Paris and was appointed portraitist of the imperial family nine years later, due to his great success with the historical picture called "Napoleon on the battlefield of Prussian Eylau".
