Akseli Gallen Kallela - Paintings

Akseli Gallen-Kallela, whose real name was actually Axel Waldemar Gallén, was a famous Finnish painter, draftsman and sculptor of Modernity.
Born on April 26, 1865 in Pori.
Died on March 07, 1931 in Stockholm.
After art studies in Helsinki and Paris and under different teachers, including Bouguereau and Cormon, the early work of Akseli Gallen-Kallela was still created in the Impressionist style. Even thought traveling a lot through Europe and, above all, being active in the Paris salon scene, the artist remained thematically closely linked to his native Finland. After becoming popular by means of four paintings presented at the 1889 World's Fair, Akseli Gallen-Kallela subsequently devoted his work to the visual proliferation of Finnish culture and tradition. His preoccupation with mythological themes and with the epic "Kalevala" soon found supporters who pilgrimaged to the first of his self-designed studios in the Finnish wilderness. Akseli Gallen-Kallela tried out different styles, due to which his work can hardly be attributed to a particular era.
