Adrian Ludwig Richter - Paintings

Adrian Ludwig Richter was an important painter and graphic artist of the German Biedermeier period. Among other things, he illustrated the fairy tales of the Grimm brothers.
Born: 28 September 1803 in Dresden
Died: 19 June 1884 in Dresden
After an academic training and an apprenticeship with his father, Adrian Ludwig Richter discovers his enthusiasm for landscape painting during a trip to Rome. Through the Nazarenes and the writings of German poets of Romanticism (Ludwig Wackenroder), Richter is well acquainted with the romantic body of thought. Nevertheless, he pursues his own style, which is first influenced by the landscape painter Joseph Anton Koch. His landscape depictions change at the creative climax of his career in 1847 from heroic alpine views towards idyllic fairytale-like forest landscapes. After two professorships, Adrian Ludwig Richter finds his talent in illustrating fairy tale books and other writings of the Late Romantic era.
