Adelsteen Normann - Paintings

Adelsteen Normann was a Germany-based artist of Impressionism stemming from a Norwegian fishing family.
Born: 01 May 1848 in Bodin
Died: 26 December 1918 in Christiania
Even though Adelsteen Normann's family wants him, their second son, to be trained as a merchant, he is interested in painting and goes to Germany, following those impulses, to attend the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts. There, from 1869, he becomes acquainted with landscape painting, taught by Oswald Achenbach and Eugen Dücker. He sticks to this art for his whole life, mainly painting views of the Norwegian fjords. At the age of 25, one year before completing his apprenticeship, Adelsteen Normann has already gained considerable success. In the following decade, he gains international recognition in the form of several medals at Parisian Salons and London exhibitions, as well as the opportunity to prove his ability at two world exhibitions.
