Domenico Ghirlandaio - Bilder und Gemälde

Domenico Ghirlandaio (eigentlich Domenico di Tommaso Bigordi genannt), in dessen Werkstatt Michelangelo ausgebildet wird, zählt neben Sandro Botticelli zu den berühmtesten Florentiener Freskenmalern der frühen Renaissance.

Domenico Ghirlandaio ist sowohl für seine mit großer Plastizität gemalten Freskenzyklen als auch als hervorragender Portraitist bekannt. So ist er 1481 an der Ausmalung der Sixtinischen Kapelle beteiligt. Mit großer Erzählfreude verewigt Domenico Ghirlandaio in seinen religiösen Zyklen gern zeitgenössische Figuren, Räume und Orte, was ihn für die heutige Forschung zu einem hervorragenden Chronisten macht. In dieser Bemühung um profane Darstellungen ist schon ein Anklang an das später entstehende Genrebild zu erkennen.
